The Dachshund Dog history reveals the origin of the Dachshund Dog to Germany around 1600s.They was bred to hunt for small kills like badger and rabbits. The Dachshund has short legs so that they could hunt and follow their prey underground and fight their prey and kill them. “Dachs” means badger. The small among the Dachshunds where bred for hunting of hare and stoats. There are several terrier features in a Dachshund. They are adaptable and daring dogs and are known to be able to fight with different types of animals if required. The Dachshund were recognized as a breed by the American Kennel Club in 1885.

The Dachshund dog puppies come in three varieties: the one with short hair, long hair and hair like wire.  The Dachshund has a body that is long. It is not tall but muscular and has legs that are short. It has a lengthened head and a small convex skull, and has eyebrows that are arched and protruding. It has a long muzzle. The jaw is tough with they have lips that are non-pendent. It has eyes that are almond shaped and are brown black or dark red in color. It has mobile ears which hang down to the cheeks. The abdomen of the Dachshund is sort of retracted. They come in various colors and varieties like black, red chocolate (tan or fawn), crème etc. Bi-color dachshunds can either be combinations of black crème and tan etc

The Dachshund dog characteristics include the standard height of a Dachshund is 8-11 inches and it may weigh over 11 pounds when it is about a year old. The small sized Dachshund is as high as 5-7 inches and may weigh about 11 pounds or less when it is a year old. The toy Dachshund is about 12 inches high and weighs about 8 pounds when it is a year old. The Dachshund dog is very curious, intelligent, energetic, loving, proud, daring, and entertaining. They are very loyal to the people of the family, but Dachshund dog training is a little difficult but it is not impossible.

The health problems Dachshund Dogs may have are they may have are diabetes, heart disease, problems of urine and its tract and attack of paralysis etc. Dachshunds become plump and lethargic very easily. This is a grave health problem, which puts a lot of pressure on the backbone.
The Dachshund dog adoption is possible as they are very good dogs to be kept in apartments.  They are quite active indoors and do not need a yard to play. The Dachshund Dog is an active a dog with amazing energy and it is essential to take them for walks daily. They also enjoy playing in the recreational areas or other areas which are open. They should be carefully handled when taken for walks as there are chances of it being stepped on by the pedestrians as they are less visible due to their size. Dachshund dog should not be allowed to jump as they can hurt their spine and injure themselves. The number of years a Dachshund dog may live is around twelve to fifteen  years.

Other Dhanshund dog information is that they are average shedders and to groom them is not very hard. The long-haired dachshund requires combing and brushing daily. The wire-haired need to be taken to professionals for trimming at least two times a year and the smooth-haired dachshund require to be cleaned regularly with a damp cloth.
