According to the Havanese history they belong to the breed of dogs known as the Bichons. In French it means “dog with fleece  or ” a lap dog that is coiled. The Bichon Havanese holds their origin to Cuba  and were got from a breed known as Havanese Silk Dog which is not seen anymore. The Bichon Havanese was the pride of the aristocratic Cuban homes during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. In the nineteenth century, the Cubans liked the breed Blanquito which was interbred with the German Poodles as well as the French ones to make a new breed which we know today as the Bichon Havanese. When the Havanese was created it looked more like a Blanquito rather than a poodle. It was in the nineteenth century that the Bichon Havanese came into being.

The Havenese characteristics include it is a sturdy dog and though  small it is not fragile. They are gentle, intelligent, highly playful, affectionate and responsive. They are very good with children and get very fond of to owner and his family. The legs of the Havanese are strong. The Havanese is a breed that has double coat and has silky hair inside as well as outer side. It has eyes that are dark and a tail which is long and covered with hair which is like silk. The coat of the Havanese may be wavy to curly and they have black eye rims, lips and nose and lips. The colors in which the Havanese come are varied.

The Havanese training is easy as they are keen learners and love pleasing people. They are very curious about things and love to see things happening around. The Havanese  are also very perceptive to voice. They need a trainer who is calm and confident and who possesses an air of authority. The training needs to be given gently as they do not respond to harsh discipline.

The Havanese health problems include Poodle eye, luxating patellas, chonrdodyplasis, dislocation of knee caps, Juvenile heritable cataracts, Progressive Retinal Atrophy, hip dysplasia, deafness and dry skin.

Havanese adoption is nice choice for people who suffer from allergy as they do not shed much hair .It is also not a bad idea for people who live in apartments as they adjust themselves well in apartments. They are very lively in the house and do not need extra space for play.

Havanese are home dogs and don’t like to be kept alone in kennels or patios. They are a playful breed and require lots of exercise and have to be taken for walks daily.

Other Havanese dog information includes the number of years the Havanese may live is about fourteen to fifteen years. They give birth to an average of 4 puppies at one time. The height of the Havanese is about 8 – 11 inches and it weighs around 7 – 13 pounds. The eyes as well as the  ears need to be checked on a regular basis as if they are left dirty there are chances of getting infected. The coat can also be clipped short so that it is easier to take care  as long coat needs to be brushed and combed thoroughly at least two times  a week. The teeth of the Havanese puppies need to be brushed at least once a week.
