The Lhasa Apso history goes back to hundred of years ago where it originated in the mountains of the Himalayas in Tibet. It has been named after the holy city of Lhasa. At the earlier stage the Apso’s were only bred by the holy monks and nobles and served as watch dogs in monasteries and temples. The Apsos were considered as a holy dog because it was a common belief that when the master died the soul of the master entered the dog body. The Apso as a breed was very hard to find and could not be bought also. Owning a Lhasa Apso was considered to bring good luck to the owner. The Lhasa Apso was introduced to the world when the Dalai Lama the thirteenth gave it as a gift.

The Lhasa Apso characteristics includes it is a small little tough dog. The length of the body of the Apso is longer than its height. It has ears that are heavily feathered and the eyes are small and deep set and brown in color. They have round feet with abundant hair and the tail is also heavily feathered. The Apsos have a thick double coat which covers the entire body. It is very long and straight that it touches the floor. The hair also covers the eyes. The Lhasa Apso comes in various colors but the most popular ones are golden and pale white.

The color of the coat generally change as the Lhasa Apso puppies  grow. In order to be able to take care of the hair easily the hair is often cut short.

Other Lhasa Apso features include it is a breed that lives for very long approximately for 15 years but some are seen to be alive for 18 years or more. As they are very playful and active they require to be taken for walks daily. They also love jumping and playing in a safe and open are with leash. The Lhasa Apso is about 10-11 inches tall and bitches are a little small in size while the Lhasa Apso weighs about 13-15 pounds.

The Lhasa Apso health problems include eye problems, ulcers that bleed and problems related to kidney. The coat needs to be kept clean and free from parasites in order to avoid skin related problems.They may also have a little problem relating to  hip dysplasia otherwise they are generally a healthy dog. If not trained properly when puppy then it will get a human induced disease known as “small dog syndrome”

Lhasa Apso adoption is a good choice as a pet as they are very affectionate towards their masters well intelligent, full of life, very loyal and spirited.It is a strong dog who is very assertive as well as friendly

 The Lhasa Apso Training is easy to be done as they obey the command given by the master with sincerity. They also respond very well to motivational training. As the Apsos have sharp ears, they are very good watch dogs.
