The Pekingese -“ The dog with royal status”

According to the Pekingese history this breed is named after the old Peking city, which at the present times is known as Beijing. They were regarded as renowned Foo Dog which used to drive away evil spirit thus was considered as sacred dogs. They were regarded as partially heavenly and the royal people of China only had the privilege to keep them. When the Army of Britain overthrew the Chinese king the guards who worked for the palace had been instructed to murder all the little dogs so that they could be saved from being taken by the British .In this process only five Pekingese could survive which was handed over to The Queen of England. It was from the  dogs that could be saved the present Pekingese we know of today has come into being.

The Pekingese characteristics include they are small, well-balanced, solid dog. They are slightly longer than they are tall and have a body full of muscles and are stocky. When compared to other parts of the body the head is big broad and flat. It has a black nose that is wide and small. They have round eyes with eyes rims that are also black. It has heart shaped ears which are well feathered and the neck is thick and short. The Pekingese is double coated. The coat from outside is rough to touch has is heavily feathered while the inner coat is smooth and dense. The colors of the coat are varied and at times they appear like a mask which is black.

 Other Pekingese information include they are very courageous little dogs who are very sensitive, independent and exceptionally affectionate to their master. They make exceptionally good escorts as they are very lovable. The Pekingese should not be overfed as they have the tendency to gain weight very easily. The height of the Pekingese is about 6-9 inches and it weighs about 8-10 pounds.The longevity of the Pekingese is 10-15 years.

The Pekingese training is to be given by a trainer who is strong and stable. They need to be given rules which they are expected to follow along with the limitations and clearly define things they are  supposed to do and what they are not to do. They need to be taken for walks daily in order to help them stay healthy both mentally and physically.

The Pekingese health problems include they are prone to getting the caps of the knees out of place and hernia. They also suffer from Trichaiasis. This is a disease where the eyelashes grow inner wards. They also tend to catch cold very easily and breathing as well as heart problems is very common to them. They also have lots of problems while giving birth.

The Pekingese puppies should be trained to wear a leash from a very young age which is about a month or so old.

The Pekingese adoption is a good idea for people who live in apartments as they adjust themselves very well to living in such an environment. The Pekingese are quite inactive at home and do not need a yard for play. Grooming them is also easy and all they need is to be combed and brushed daily. The breed is known to be average shedders.
