The Poodle Dog has been known the whole time in West side of the European continent for a minimum period of four hundred years. No one is sure about the Poodle Dog history or the country of origin of the Poodle though France Germany and Denmark claim it to belong to their country. The name “Poodle” has been derived from the German word “Pudle”. The French used them to perform in circuses because of their extreme cleverness and ability to be trained. The Poodle became very admired in France, which in turn gave it a common name the “French Poodle”.
The Standard Poodle Dog characteristics are it is a dog which is mid sized to big size. The Poodle has a skull which is round. The eyes are brown or black and are oval shaped. The ears are flat and dangle near the head The height of a Poodle can be about 38 cms and it may weigh about 20-32 kgs and the female poodles may weigh around 20-27 kgs.
The Standard Poodle is pompous, charming, gracious joyful and good-natured. Poodle Dog training is an enjoyable process as they are extremely intelligent. They do not like to live in kennels or outside the house. They like company and detest being left alone. They are normally responsive to people they don not know, but are good with children.
The Poodle dog has health problems which are genetic as the Poodle is breed that lives long. Some of the problems that it usually suffers from are cataracts, running eyes and a disease of the eye which in the long run leads to blindness. They are also very prone to allergies and suffer from ear infections and Hip dysphasia. They are also seen to bloat so it’s advisable to feed the poodles two three times rather than just one big meal.
The Poodles dog puppies if adopted can be kept in apartments if given proper exercise as they are not very active inside the house. The Standard Poodle requires walks and other activities daily. Although they love water and are very keen for walks, the Poodles do not demand for exercise. In order to keep them lively and fit they need to be allowed running and playing without leash in safe areas on a regular basis. The Poodles have great strength or energy and require more activities than the smaller kinds..
Other Poodle Dog Information include the longevity of life of a poodle is 12-15 years or more years. The Poodles need to be given bath on a regular basis and clipped every 6- 8 weeks. The ears need to be cleaned and checked often for infections, mites and wax and also to pull out hairs that grow in the canal of the ear. Scaling of the teeth needs to be done regularly. The Poodles do not shed much hair thus are not harmful for people who suffer from allergy. Proper grooming needs to be done properly if the Poodle is to be showcase in shows.
