According to the Shetland sheepdog history they are in some way connected to a Collie dog. Both the Shetland sheepdog and the Rough collie dogs had descended from a breed of Scotland known as the Border Collies. They were got to Shetland which is a Scottish island and interbred with a breed of dog which was small and also belonged to an island. It was by seventeen hundred that the Shetland as a breed came into full being. 

The Shetland sheepdog characteristics include they look like a small replica of the Collie that had a rough coat. When seen side ways, the head seems like a wedge that is blunt. The teeth meet like a bite of the scissor or level bite. They have a black nose. The eyes are dark and shaped like an almond. They have small ears and it has a well built and arched neck, while the tail is long and feathered. The Shetland sheepdog have double coat which is long and plentiful all through the body but the hair that covers the legs as well as the head is short. A mane is formed in the area surrounding the area of the neck and the chest. The coat from outside is flat and rough when felt while the inner coat is silky as well as tight. The color of the coat may be blue and different shades of black.

The Shetland sheepdog health problems include dislocation of the kneecap, eyes related diseases, they are prone to hypothyroidism and they also have a tendency to inherit malformations. Feeding also should not be done excessively as they have the tendency to gain weight easily. 

The height of the Shetland Sheepdog is about 13-16 inches and it weighs about 14-27 pounds. The number of years that the Shetland Sheep dog may live is about twelve to fifteen years.  

The Sheltie puppies are very graceful which is very active and need a lot of exercise to keep healthy. They need to be taken for walks or jogs daily. One thing they fancy most is to run about freely in open areas.  

The Sheltie dog adoption can be done by people who live in apartments as though the shelties are   not dogs to be kept in apartments but can stay well in one if they are given sufficient exercise. They are quite active within the hose and do not need a yard for playing.
