According to the Giant Schnauzer history it holds its origin to Germany. It is the result of inter-breeding that was done between the Schnauzers and the Great Dane as well as Bouvier Des Flandres .The Schnauzer is a German word which is used for muzzle.  In German the Schnauzer is known as the Riesenchnauzer which is a term used for giant. The Giant Schnauzer was used for driving cattle’s and the police as well as the military used it as a watch dog

The Giant Schnauzer characteristics include it is a big, powerful and sturdy dog. It appears like the bigger adaptation of the Schnauzer. It has a strong head which looks like a rectangle. It has a large black nose and the teeth meet like the bite of a scissor. The Giant Schnauzer has black lips and the eyes are dark and medium in size and shaped like an oval. The ears of the Giant are either natural or cropped. If the ears are cropped they are erect and if they are natural then they look V shaped. The tail of the Giant is generally docked and the dewclaws need to be removed if there are any. The coat of the Giant is double and the outer coat is thick and rough while the undercoat is smooth and soft. The coat comes in various combinations of black as well as black and white.

Other Giant Schnauzers information’s include the number of years the Giant Schnauzer may live is about twelve to fifteen years. They are very sharp and a dog that adapts itself very well according to the   environment. Apart from this they are very trust worthy, daring and full of energy and enjoy the company all the time. The height of the Giant Schnauzer is twenty six inches to twenty eight inches tall while the bitches are about twenty three inches to twenty six inches tall. The weight of the Giant is around sixty pounds to eighty pounds while the bitches weigh around fifty five pounds to seventy five  pounds.

The Giant Schnauzer training is not difficult but needs to be done by someone who is very calm and has a lot of confidence to show authority and dominance and who is consistent in his methods of teaching the dog. The rules for the Giant Schnauzer to follow need to be clearly specified.

The Giants Schnauzer health problem includes dysplasia of the hips which is uncontrollable as well as Epilepsy. They also suffer from cancer of the toes which is very fatal and is the cause of death of many Giant every year. They also have the tendency of bloating so should not be over fed.

The Giant Schnauzer adoption is not suitable for people who cannot devote time to take the Giant for long walks, jogging and running along with the bicycle and swimming  and give them vigorous exercise to keep them mentally and physically healthy.

The Giant Schnauzer puppies are brilliant and very clever and extremely energetic. They should be made to mix with other pets of the house from a very tender age. They are very playful and very good with children.
