The Weimaraner : “The Hunting Dog”

According to the Weimaraner history this breed is more than a few centuries old and has been got from the similar breed that were used for hu nting in Germany. They are the descendants of a type of breed known as Bloodhound. The Weimaraners are very good pointers and an all rounder hunting dog. They were initially used to hunt for wild animals but nowadays they are used to get back kills that fall in the water apart from hunting, tracking, working as watchdog, guarding, helping police in rescue and search operations, and serving as an escort for the disabled. It was in 1942 that the American Kennel Club recognized the Weimaraner for the first time.

The Weimaraner characteristics include they are sort of huge, athletic, working . It has a medium sized head and nose that is gray. The teeth meet like the bite of scissors. The eyes are wide-set and are of different shades of gray and blue. They have high-set ears which are long and folded forward and which hang down on the head side.The Weimaraner has webbed compact feet and the legs in front are straight.. The Weimaraner puppies tail is docked when just two three days old. Their smelling sense is exceptional. 

The Weimaraner adoption is good for families as they are joyful, caring, smart, cheerful, and loving and very good with children. The Weimaraners can be kept in apartments if they are given enough exercise. They are reasonably not very active in the house so a need minimum a big  yard for activity. The Weimaraner is not those types of dog that prefer to be kept isolated in kennels. 

The Weimaraner training is easy as they are keen learners and very quick to learn. Repetition of the same thing again and again makes them bored easily. The Weimaraner needs to be given training by someone who is firm and experienced and the training should start from very young. The trainer should not be unkind but calm and should have a good control over the dog. 

The Weimaraner health problems include they are they may have dysplasia of the hips and tumors. They are also prone to getting bloated so should be fed two three small meals instead of one big meal. 

Other Weimaraner information includes the height of the male Weimaraner dog is 24 –27 inches and that of bitches is 22-25 inches while the weight of the male Weimaraner is 55 – 70 pounds and that of the bitches is 50 – 65 pounds. They may live as long as 10- 12 years. The Weimaraner is powerful working dogs who have immense energy. It is important to take them for jogs or walks daily and given chance to run about freely as and when possible. 

Grooming a Weimaraner is easy. It just needs to be brushed with a stiff hair brush and given bath when extremely necessary with a soap that is not hard. The nails need to be kept trimmed and lastly they are average shedders.
